World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 to raise awareness and generate action on a pressing environmental issue. The Day offers an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments and renew our resolve in overcoming the environmental challenges facing the world today.

This year, World Environment Day is hosted by Pakistan on the theme of “Ecosystem Restoration” under the campaign “Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.” The day will also serve as the formal launch of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.

In 2021, the World Environmental Day and the global campaign in its lead-up is aimed at raising ambitions and encouraging bold actiJns from governments, corporations, civil society and comunities across the globe for the restoration of ecosystems. To encourage rapid progress, UNEP has published the the Ecosystem Restoration Playbook, which provides information on a range of actions that can slow and halt the degradation of ecosystems and foster their recovery.

    On this World
Environment Day, we are all invited to join #GenerationRestoration to create a global
movement that will last a decade and beyond, providing a rallying cry for everyone – from governments and
corporations to citizens and civil society groups – to
do their part in healing our ailing planet. The
official hashtags for the Day are #GenerationRestoration
and #WorldEnvironmentDay. More info and social media assets available through World Environment Day 2021 | Trello.

As part of the official launch, the UN Decade’s digital hub
will go live on decade on restoration.org, with the aim of
connecting interested governments, funders and citizens
    with on-the-ground restoration efforts.
