A call for participation: The Alliance for Biodiversity Knowledge is a unique collaboration across several international non-governmental and scientific groups, including the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC), Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG), and Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio), among others. The Alliance is seeking community input from you to facilitate designing the next generation of digital biodiversity and museum specimen records — and how they need to be linked to other scientific data including genomic and genetic information as well as annotations on sources of specimens.

The Alliance set up a public consultation site and one of the topics seeking your valuable expertise is legal, regulatory, ethical and sensitive data obligations associated with biodiversity material, i.e., genetic resources, balanced against an open data policy in academia. Please feel free to explore the public consultation platform, share the link with your colleagues, and sign up to participate in the lively conversations. If you prefer sharing your ideas anonymously, feel free to contact me or one of the Alliance Moderators listed there off line. Thank you.
