Webinar on the Introduction to the Biological Diversity Act of India: Historical Perspectives
June 24 @ 11:00 am UTC+5.5
The Government of India enacted the Biological Diversity (BD) Act in 2002; notified the Biodiversity Rules in 2004 and formulated the guidelines for Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) of biological resources in 2014.
This legal framework has served well to achieve the goals of conservation of biodiversity, sustainable utilization of biodiversity and fair and equitable sharing. Nevertheless, the understanding of this legal framework and issues related to its implementation have not been completely understood by a large number of stakeholders.
In order to effectively address these issues, UNDP India in partnership with the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) launched the Webinar Series on Biodiversity and Biological Diversity Act 2002, in the framework of the Virtual Celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity.
The Webinar Series – presented by Sh. Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, New Delhi-, has been designed to bring in leading experts and practitioners to share their professional expertise and respond to various Questions & Answers.
As part of this initiative, a Webinar on the Introduction to Biological Diversity Act: Historical Perspectives, is scheduled to be held on 24 June, 2020 at 11.00 AM (12 AM Panama Time/ 8 AM Istanbul Time). The Invited Speaker is Dr. P. L. Gautam, an eminent Agricultural Scientist and former Chairperson of the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA). The webinar will be Moderated by Dr. V. B. Mathur, Chairperson of the National Biodiversity Authority.
